The big rivalry

Yesterday we ventured to Falcons Stadium for the AFA vs. Army game.  We started with a tailgate lunch.

Brian did an excellent job of grilling the brats.  Jillian made her pizza muffins which Brian warmed on the grill.

Yum!

There was a little tossing of the football.

Mr. Beans was all decked out for the Falcons.

Jillian actually found a pink Army hoodie.

She made these really yummy cupcakes.  Who knew Jillian was so handy in the kitchen?

It was a little on the chilly side...we had rain followed by sleet.  Peferct tailgate weather don't you think?

Mary had to work so she was unable to be with us...we missed her, but I don't know if she would have survived this weather.  We made her a plate of tailgate food so she at least got to enjoy that.

Is that ice on the propane tank?

A couple Army Blackhawks flew over.  Go Army!

After enjoying our lunch we loaded up with blankets, jackets, gloves, and hats and headed to the stadium.  We never did connect with Mr. Beans' big brothers.

There were too many cadets to find them!

The stars and stripes made a dramatic entrance from the sky.

The coin toss included wounded warriors from both the Army and Air Force--very touching.

There was also a special guest--Cuba Downing Jr.  He was there to promote his new movie, Red Tails, which is about the Tuskegee Airmen--it opens in January.

A little while after the game started there was some commotion in our section when Cuba Downing Jr. showed up.   I presume he was going to the press boxes which are probably heated...wimp.  (I wish he would have let me know he was coming so I could have had the camera ready!)

Do you think every time Cuba goes out in public people scream "show me the money"?  That must be very annoying.

There were quite a few cadets from West Point there.

Are they called cadets at West Point, or is there some other name for them?  (As a former Army wife I should know these things.)

Army dominated the first half of the game.  It was Army 14 - Air Force 3 at half time.  The second half was a different story though.

Let's just say the cadets got to do a lot of push ups.

CBS Sports was televising the game and this guy with the orange glove was the most hated guy in the stadium.  When he was out on the field, the game was stopped for a media time out.  Those darn commercial breaks really make the game drag on...the only time the crowd booed was when this guy came out.

Final score Falcons 24 - Knights 14.  Time to get out to the truck and turn the heat on.

Mr. Beans did his share of gloating about the Falcons beating Pappy's Army team.  Go Falcons!

It was fun time even if it was a little cold.

The sky looked a little ominous.

I think the dogs missed us while we were gone.  Luckily they seemed to behave while we were out...except for the huge holes in the backyard.

Who has big dogs that they not only allow on the furniture, but on their laps?
