Random thoughts for the week

Wow!  The bills from my recent surgery and hospitalization are starting to flow in.  So far we're up to $43,060.64.  Thank goodness we have such good insurance!  Possible good news--for the last four days my pain level has been about 80% of what it has been the last 22 months.  Could this mean the procedure worked?  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

This has been a crazy week!  The tornado is Oklahoma just really broke my heart.  Maybe it's because I have family in Oklahoma, maybe it's because I have lots of Farm Credit friends in Oklahoma, maybe it's because Oklahoma is great horse country that I've travelled to many times with my 4-H kids.  Most definitely it was because there were tiny little victims who had barely begun to live.  It was heartbreaking and very scary.  It's hard to understand why these things happen, but we have to trust in our God who is the only one who knows the answer.  I'm praying for Oklahoma--for the grieving and healing that they're going through.

I had a rotten day at work yesterday.  One of our branch managers chewed me up and down for something that my partner had let slip through the cracks before she left on vacation.  This was so totally unexpected of this guy and it through me for a loop.  Although I tried to defend the actions I had taken since I was handed the issue six hours earlier, he wouldn't hear any of it.  He even threw out the "I'm a manager" card just to make sure I felt like the smallest of peons in the company.  Worst of all he did it in front of a group of my co-workers.  Made me so upset that when I left the room, I cried which made me even madder (darn those emotions).  I felt like turning in my resignation immediately.  Who in their right mind would ever choose to work in IT?  Nobody ever calls to say their systems are working perfectly, they only call when problems arise and then they expect to be put first on the priority list.  I'm going to look and see if the zoo has any openings.  What could be better than working with animals every day?

He pulled me aside in the hallway and apologized later that afternoon...but does that make it okay?

Today is a new day though and I did come back to work.  Here's why...

I'm putting together care packages for Brian and one of our auditors who are both deployed to Afghanistan.  Everyday I come into my office and the pile has grown.  Such generous people!  Plus I have quite a bit of money to go shopping with this weekend to get even more stuff and the company is going to pay the postage to get it all over there.

I'm looking forward to the 3-day weekend!  We don't have anything special planned because Irv is working, but that's okay.  It's time to get my sewing room set up since I now have time to start enjoying my hobbies again.  Then I'm going to start working on a 24x24 inch quilt.  Starting small to get back into quilting.

Have a good day everyone!

We have been in shock and very upset about the tornadoes. We were all extremely anxious on Sunday and Monday. Really wish we had a safe room. Glad your pain has gotten better. Hope that continues. Sorry about what happened at work. Don't know why people have to act like that, apology or not-it just isn't right. Hopefully, that won't happen again.

Yes, I worry about you guys not having a basement or safe room especially when I see those storms moving northeast through Oklahoma. I understand what a shock it can be to have such a disaster nearby. Last year when we had the big fire it touched everyone personally even if they weren't affected. It's been great to see how everyone there jumps in to help their neighbors and complete strangers.

Wow, sorry about you getting chewed out especially when done in front of everybody. A private apology is just so frustrating. It has been a long time since that happened to me and it is very upsetting.
But you work with some great people. How generous of them to help with the care packages. My experience is that most people want to help where they can whether they live in Oklahoma, Colorado, or whereever.
I think this is the year that we get a storm shelter.
