New Years Eve

So how did you spend your New Year's Eve?

For us, it's a family day.  We aren't really in to going out drinking and being around a lot of other people.  We prefer a day with the world's best grandson, Mr. Beans.

We started in the afternoon with a movie, We Bought a Zoo.  Overall, it was a really good movie.  There were several touching scenes and the theme of the movie was perfect (for me anyway).  A recently widowed man moves his two kids out of the city and buys a zoo which needs a lot of work.

What could be better than owning your own zoo?  My dream come true!  I've been trying to build my own zoo, but Irv is a little resistant and tells me "no" a lot.  Why can't I have my own zebras, lions, tigers, and bears?

My biggest criticism of the movie is that they had to throw in an occasional "bad" word.  Why do they do that with a family film?  Makes no sense!

After the movie we decided we wanted some pizza.  We headed over to Old Colorado City to a pizzeria that we've been wanting to try for some time--Pizzeria Rustica.

I only have three things to say--yum, yum, yum!

Mr. Beans is very traditional so they put together a one-half pepperoni and one-half sausage pizza for him, then we learned that he doesn't like sausage.

Irv and I are a little more adventurous.  We had the pizza di giorno.  I can't tell you what the name of it was, but it had four types of cheeses, salami, rosemary, and potato slices.  Wonderful!

We had no problem devouring all the pizza on the table.  This is definitely one of our new favorite places.  Next time we'll be sure to make a reservation, we were lucky they were able to squeeze us in.

Mr. Beans gave this pizza a rating higher than Little Caesars.  Wow!  It must have been really good.

After dinner we had a little time to waste so we stopped by Kohls to see if they had any good after Christmas deals.  This was of course Mr. Beans' favorite event of the day because he LOVES shopping!  (NOT!)  We pretty much left empty handed, except for some really cool fingerless gloves that I found for $3.50.

Then it was time to head to the World Arena.  Jillian and Brian gave us their hockey tickets for last night's game-Colorado College vs. Union.  For all three of us, this was our first ever hockey game.

It was fun, although next time we need Brian to come with us since we really don't have a clue about the rules of the game.  Colorado College (#5) ended up beating Union (#10) by a score of 2-1.

The most exciting part of the game came during the second intermission or half time, or whatever you call it.  We purchased three "chuck a pucks".  You throw them out on the ice and the puck that comes closest to the sponsors' signs that are laid out on the ice wins a prize from that sponsor.  Irv and Mr. Beans won $30 in Taco Bell Bucks.  Woohoo!

It was a fun day with our little dude.  Today we're staying home to watch the Broncos whip Irv's Chiefs.

GO BRONCOS!
