"The Daddy of 'em All"
Irv and Mr. Bean delayed their man trip by a day when a friend offered us tickets to the rodeo at Cheyenne Frontier Days. We jumped at the chance to go up to Chevenne and watch this rodeo.
It was really hot in Cheyenne. I was wishing I could trade my jeans and boots in for some shorts and sandals. If we go back next year I'll be sure to dress more appropriately.
Mr. Beans was the photographer for the day. He must have likes this beautiful Priefert hitch of Percherons.
He got a good action shot of the saddle bronc riding. I've never seen so many pickup men before (the guys in the purple shirts).
A close up of Grammy sweltering in the heat.
Wow! Did he ever get a good shot of the calf roping.
He must have liked this pretty gray roping horse.
Hmmm...there seems to be a lot of shots of these girl trick riders. I wonder why he took so many pictures of them??
He even got some good shots of the bull riding.
Somebody was getting a little bored after four hours of rodeo. (Mr. Grumpy Pants.)
The final event of the day was the Wild Horse Race. This was a fun event that turned out very tragically. The gray horse in the center background would be dead by the time the rodeo was over. After the wild horse race had finished, the horses were being herded together and she tripped over her lead rope, flipped over, and broke her neck. This happened right in front of us and we knew it was bad when she lost all of her bodily functions. Within seconds the vet was there to sedate her. They hauled her away in the horse ambulance and I read in an article today that she had died. It was a horrible accident that is etched in my mind. I know the animal activists will try to say this was caused by cruelty to animals during the rodeo. I'm an animal lover and a rodeo fan and I know this was just a tragic accident. I've seen many quality show horses trip over lead lines or reins. This time it just turned out very badly. Poor little gray mare.
Afterwards we found an airconditioned spot to have a cold drink then we looked around the trade show for awhile before heading over to the Texas Roadhouse for dinner with some friends. We got home around 11:15. It was a long day, but very fun. Next year we plan to spend the whole weekend up there.

What a tragedy about the horse. I know nothing about horses but it sounds like an accident to me.
