Rocking n Rolling

What a great weekend!

The highlight of the weekend was definitely the baby shower, but on Sunday we had a great time too!

Arizona Rock n Roll Marathon and 1/2 (and 10K for the whimps).

When you go to a big run like this they put you in corrals based on what you expect your finishing time to be.  There were 20 corrals and guess where we started?

Corral 20 was right in front of the UPS trucks that haul the runner's gear from the start line to the finish line.

This is what it looks like from Corral 20 when there are 22,000 other runners in front of you.

Yes, it takes a long time just to reach the start line when you're in Corral 20 especially when they close the course every 5th corral or so to allow the light rail trains to pass.

Finally, we're moving!

You know what's really great about a Rock n Roll run?  They have bands scattered throughout the course.  This one was an army rock n roll band.

You know what's really nice about a 10K in Arizona?  No hills and I could breathe!

Here's the almost half way point.

Around mile 4 my running partner left me behind.  He was so nice to hang out with me for as long as he did and he was some good motivation.

Around mile 5 my legs starting complaining a little bit.  I knew I was on track for a good finish time so I kept plugging along and before long the finish line was ahead and the street was lined with spectators which was kind of fun.

After coming across the finish line we were loaded down with water, gatorade, chocolate milk, protein bars, bananas, fruit cups, etc.  It was awesome to see how well prepared they were at the finish line.

There was also the required beer which tastes very refreshing after a long distance.  We reconnected with D and A.  Adam ran the half marathon and beat the goal he set for himself.  He did his half marathon in 1:47.  Pretty impressive don't you think?

The finisher medals were incredible and made all the aches and pains worth it!

So how did I do?

My average pace was 14:53.  (The fastest pace I've ever maintained for a 10K.)

I placed 2194th out of 2781. (At my last 10K I was 3rd from last so I'm really happy to know that I finished ahead of 587 other people.)

I was 131st out of 185th in my division (that would be the old lady division--again I'm happy to have finished ahead of 54 other old ladies).

As for gender, I finished 1497th out of 1937.  (That means that 440 ladies of various ages finished behind me.)

My time was 1:32:28 which is a whole 8 minutes ahead of my last 10K!  (Yes, I know it's still really slow, but my only goal was to finish.)

Am I happy about these results?  You better believe it!  (Imagine what I could have done if I had actually done some training in advance.)

I'll definitely be back next year and Irv and I plan to participate in the remix--5K on Saturday and 10K on Sunday (mainly because you get two medals for doing the remix).

Yep, I had a really good time. It's nice when your use to running at 6000 ft and go down to a couple hundred. You feel like you can run forever.
