My birthday week begins!
The first couple days of my birthday week has been fantastic! I think we should go for 365 days of birthday.
On Saturday Irv and I went and got our Whooping Cough vaccinations updated. Dana very kindly asked if we would mind doing that before we go to see our new granddaughter. I hope the Little Miss appreciates how much our arms have been aching ever since. (It was worth it!) In case you're wondering, the Little Miss is in no hurry to make her appearance. I'm pretty sure she's waiting for her Grammy's birthday on Saturday.
Then on Sunday I wanted to go for a hike. Well, when you've recently had a couple weeks of weather that left a foot or more of snow, it's kind of hard finding somewhere that is dry.
We saw a lot of snow, ice, slush, and mud!
We came across some good tracks...who or what do you think this monstrous thing belonged to?
We take the outer trails and when the conditions are like this you practically have the trail to yourself. I think we saw about six or eight people on the remote trails. Now, we did walk through the Central Garden trails or what I like to call the "city folk" or tourist trails. You know, the people that drive from spot to spot and hardly get out to their cars. In other words, the person I was until a few years ago.
I can't tell you how much I enjoy being outside with this beauty. It's my center. It makes me happy and recharges my batteries.
Irv, on the other hand, wasn't as thrilled with the conditions. He actually had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to take a "short cut" back to the car. It wasn't until the end of our 3.47 mile hike that I agreed to take a short cut, but only to avoid going down an icy hill. I learned that hiking in these conditions is a little harder than a normal hike. Maneuvering through the mud, side stepping down the icy hills, and jumping across puddles made my legs a little tired.
It doesn't get much better than this. (Maybe I should have saved this shot for Skywatch Friday.)
Now, the best part of a long hike. We were famished after our workout so we stopped at Rudy's Barbecue. I had the smoked turkey sandwich, slaw, pinto beans and a beer. It was delicious!
Today I came home from work and Irv had smoked a couple pork briskets. I can honestly tell you that this is the best pork I've ever had. It was tender and delicious. What a treat!
I can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings!
Happy birthday to me!

I will admit that it was a little treacherous in spots. There were a few areas with a very narrow, icy, muddy trail right next to a cliff, not a big cliff, but a small cliff. I learned to prefer the ice more than the mud because the mud gives away easily. Luckily, there was only one fall and if you're wondering--it wasn't Irv, and no, I didn't fall off the cliff!

it looks like fun.
I can't believe you threw Irv under the bus. I heard the thump thump clear down here in Tulsa.
I got my xray results from the doctor. There is no break or crack in my ribs where the pain is. They did find an old rib fracture that healed in a differen tarea. Go figure that out. I don't ever remember breaking a rib. You think I'd remember that.
