I love my weekends!

I love weekends!  I can't wait until everyday becomes a weekend!

My meeting in Wichita ended a day early this week and I had the option of paying several hundred dollars for an earlier flight, renting a car and driving home (like I did last week), or just hanging out in Wichita.

I chose to just hang out in Wichita.  I tried to sleep in late, but that's not something I'm really able to do anymore.  After packing up my things I headed to my first destination--Rhatigan Student Center at Wichita State University.  With Dana's permission I am able to share that the new baby is a girl!

Dana is a WSU alum and since there's a new baby coming who will arrive just in time for March Madness, I had to take the opportunity to get her an appropriate outfit.

This will be the perfect outfit for our Baby Girl to wear while watching the Shockers win the NCAA Championship.

I also wanted to buy her this stuffed Shocker, but couldn't quit figure out how to fit it into my suitcase.  (He's kind of ugly don't you think?)

My next stop was the Sedgewick County Zoo.  I won't bore you with the usual pictures of zoo animals...I'll just share one shot.  It was a quiet day at the zoo and this deer and I were alone for several minutes so I got to just sit and enjoy her.  What a beautiful creature!  As with most zoos in the middle to the day, most of critters were sleeping, but I still enjoyed my trip there.

Next, I took myself to the movies.  I chose a movie that Irv would never want to see...The Good Lie.  It was about a group of the Lost Boys of Sudan and their adjustment to life in Kansas City.  It also told about the affect that 911 had on the orphans of Sudan and their hopes to relocate to the U.S.  Because there was known terrorist activity in the Sudan, after 911 the program to bring these orphans to the U.S. was halted.  A devastating effect on the 100,000+ orphans living in the refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia.  Anyway, I thought I was going to have the theatre to myself, but shortly before the movie started about 5 other women joined me.

After the movie I planned to go get my 3-mile walk in, but before I did that I had to make a couple stops at my favorite stores in Wichita.  I wanted to bring something KC Chief related back to my favorite grandson and his pappy who for some unknown reason are the biggest Chiefs fan.

There's another shop in Wichita, Forever Yours, which sells the most unique jewelry and clothing.  I HAD to stop there and only controlled myself because of the amount of space left in my suitcase.  Love that shop!

By then it was time for the airport.  I expected another horrible experience with AA, but my flights ran perfectly.  I arrived in Dallas on time and by the time I rode the train from the A concourse to the D concourse my flight to Colorado Springs was already boarding.

On Friday, I took my Columbus Day holiday.  Irv and I had lunch out followed by another movie, The Fury.  Then we did a little shopping for new tile for the laundry room and new kitchen appliances.

Afterwards we ended up at a Vietnamese restaurant that I've been wanting to try.  I asked the waitress what she recommended and she suggested the Pho.  Bring it on!

I will admit that I didn't love it.  The noodles and meat were pretty good, but the broth had a very strange taste.  Glad I tried it, and I'll try it again some day probably, but I didn't love it.

Anyway, I enjoyed goofing off for a couple days and having an extended weekend.  Weekends are the best!

Sounds like a great time in Wichita. Back before I was a stupervisor I could take little jaunts like that from time to time. Now I never go anywhere without one of my account managers or directors in tow.
