Broncos, Denver, Email, Evita and Other Weekend Happenings
How was your weekend?
Ours was very nice, but it sure went by quickly like it always does. One not so good thing that happened is that my email account was hacked and I thought I had lost all access to my email. Talk about panic....you don't realize how dependent you are on your email until something happens that might take it away. My darling husband figured out how to restore it to normal so I'm a happy camper again.
On Saturday I took my husband on a date to the theater in Denver. On our way downtown we had to swing by Mile High to say goodbye to Peyton and the boys and wish them luck. Go Broncos!
After lunch we had a little time to waste and since my Fitbit said I needed lots of steps to reach 10K for the day, we did a walking tour. First stop was the convention center and the blue bear.
Then down to 16th Street to see what was going on down there. The light rail runs downtown. I wish I lived in a town that had a light rail. If I did I would definitely take it to work everyday.
As expected, the streets were decorated for the Broncos. The city and its people are decked out in orange.
The 16th Street Mall is a closed off street downtown that you stroll on and there's lots of shops and restaurants. There's also a Federal Reserve. You can always expect something out of the usual on 16th Street. On Saturday there was a demonstration against air traffic (sorry the sun's glare made the picture not turn out very well). Apparently the federal government is violating our rights by allowing airplanes to travel through our skies. We quickly crossed the street avoid this group who were peaceful, but definitely passionate about the subject. (I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that marijuana is now legal in our state.)
After 6,000 steps or so it was time to head over to the Performing Arts Center to see Evita. The Performing Arts Center is quite a complex and is very beautiful.

One of my favorite things on 16th Street is the clock tower. It was built in 1911 s part of the Daniels and Fisher (D and F) Department Store. A that time it as the tallest structure west of the Mississippi.

Now, I don't know if I just wasn't in the mood or something, but I did not enjoy Evita at all. In fact, I pretty much slept through the entire first act. Maybe it was because the understudy was playing Eva and she didn't have the voice to belt out those songs especially Don't Cry for Me Argentina. At intermission we had a serious conversation about leaving, but we decided to stay. The one good thing that came out of it was that after the show I did a little research about the Perons and their bizarre life. Did you know Eva's embalmed body went missing for 17 years after her death? It was found in Milan, Italy and then Juan Peron and his third wife brought it to their house in Spain where they kept it in the dining room. No, I'm not kidding. It was returned to Argentina when Juan because president again and now it's locked away in a very secure vault. One thing I didn't understand is if the people really loved Eva that much or if they were forced to act like they loved her. More investigation is definitely needed.
Anyway, I did not love the show and I probably won't see it again.
I have a one day work week this week before I head up to the frozen tundra of Minnesota. That trip is bound to provide some good blogging material so stay tuned.

Their are several good caches on 16th street including one near the mint. At least there were years ago when I was last there.
