Come to me

"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest."  Matthew 11:28

I can't image the despair one must feel to even contemplate taking their own life.  Unfortunately, for the second time in a few months my extended family has lost a young man in their prime of their lives.  From the outside it looked like both of these men had everything going for them, but obviously on the inside they had turmoil going on in which they thought the only way out was to leave this earth.  Both of them had families with young kids.   The cousin I lost yesterday took over the family ranch years ago.  He has a wife who has devoted herself to being a ranch wife and four sons who definitely aren't old enough to take over the ranch yet.  What will become of the ranch which is the original family farmstead?  What will happen to the wife and sons?

I was awake almost all night grieving the loss of a cousin and also being angry at him for taking the easy way out although I can never understand the despair he had to be feeling.  He has left behind a family who will undoubtedly struggle and a business that has been in the family for generations that now has an uncertain future.

I pray for my cousin's soul and for his parents and siblings who are grieving his death.  I can't imagine losing a child especially at their own hands.   The Bible promises that neither life nor death can separate the believer from the love of God in Christ Jesus. I know my cousin is at peace in Heaven now because he was a believer.  I pray the same peace for his family.

"And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."
  John 6:39-40
