Fear not

But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. (Isaiah 43:1-3)

It was a somber day in Colorado Springs.  I think people are in shock over what happened last night.  The initial report is that 200-300 houses were lost, but thankfully not a single fatality.  President Obama is coming on Friday to view the devastation.  It's awesome that he is coming to support the community, but at the same time I'm not sure we want to spread our law enforcement resources even thinner when they have to provide additional security for his visit.

Tonight it's calmer in Colorado Springs.  We can even see the mountains through the haze of smoke.  It seems the fire is now moving to the west, they're evacuating Woodland Park which is to the west of Colorado Springs.  We had about 10 drops of rain today which is a good start, but we need our monsoon rains to start soon.

It's funny how life goes on.  People who live and/or work on the west side of town have had their lives turned upside down.  32,000 people and 20,000 houses and businesses have been evacuated west of I-25.  Those of us who live and work in the east carried on as usual today.  Today was my flex day and I would normally choose to do something fun outside, but the air quality is so bad that citizens have been advised to stay inside.  It was a good afternoon to stay inside and try to finish the third book of the Hunger Games series.

My garden has gone a little uncared for this year.  I planted too early and everything froze so I had to re-plant.  Because we have found five snakes in the last two weeks I've been hesitant to venture out to the garden plot.  (Yes, I'm terrified of snakes if you haven't figured that out yet.  The Orkin guy came today, but forgot to bring the snake repellant.  Is there really such a thing as snake repellant, or is that something that Irv and the Orkin guy made up to make me feel safer?)

Tonight though I summoned my courage and went out to see how things are doing.

The tomato plants are loaded with little tomatoes.

I have little zucchinis.  The lettuce is doing good.  The cucumbers are doing okay.

I promised my garden that I would start spending more time out there.  I can't wait for my homegrown fresh vegetables!

Life goes on.
