Trivial Pursuit Challenge - Day 1

One of my favorite holiday traditions is game night on Christmas Eve.  We always have chili and cornbread for dinner followed by an evening of board games, mainly Trivial Pursuit.  Over the years we've seen Gramps come up with the most amazing answer ever (Kickapoo Joy Juice), Granny sitting in her recliner never really commiting to be on a team, but throwing out answers for anyone who needed them, and Bob with his brain that is a depository of facts and figures.  This year is going to be a little different because Irv will be working, Dana and Adam are in Australia, Jillian and Brian are in Wisconsin, and Mary hates trivial pursuit.  I'm not sure that Gramps, Bob, and Mr. Beans will want to play without everyone else.  Even though my girls are spread out across the world, there's no reason why we can't play a game of trivial pursuit via the internet.  Since it's almost Christmas Eve in Australia, it's time to get started.

Here are the rules:    Each day we will play for a certain colored pie piece.  Each team that answers all six of the daily questions correctly wins a pie piece.  The first team to collect all six pie pieces is the winner!  You must post your answers in the comment section of my blog (no cheating by looking at the comments until after you've submitted your answers!).  For the next few days I'll allow anyone to leave comments without requiring you to log in.  Since I'm running the game I get to choose the version of trivial pursuit we're playing and I choose The Genus Edition, or as Jillian calls it, the really, really old version.  We'll bring this version to the 21st century by allowing you to find your answers by whatever means are necessary such as Google.

The teams are:
  • The Pink Team - Jillian and Brian
  • The Blue Team - Irv
  • The Yellow Team - Dana and Adam
  • The Orange Team - Mary and Mr. Beans
  • The Brown Team - Anyone else who wants to play (Mom and Dad in Albuquerque?)
Today we're playing for a PINK pie piece in honor of Jillian who had to spend numerous hours in the airport yesterday due to a cancelled flight on her way to Sheboygan.

Your questions are:

#1 (geography) - Where is the Abominable Snowman said to wander?
#2 (entertainment) - What orchestra's theme song was Moonlight Serenade?
#3 (history) - What's the U.S. Navy hymn?
#4 (arts & literature) - What cocktail inspired John Doxat to write the book Stirred - Not Shaken?
#5 (science & nature) - What was the claim to fame of Explorer I, launched Feb. 1, 1958?
#6 (sports & leisure) - What do you get by mixing gin and vermouth?

Remember you have to answer all six questions correctly to win a pie piece.

Here's how the game board looks right now.  Good luck!

Were questions 4 and 6 for Gramps?

1. Himalayan mountains
2. Glenn Miller
3. Eternal Father - strong to Save
4. Martini
5. First Earth Satellite for the US
6. Martini

And I'd like to suggest that you have it set up to auto-post in the middle of the night your time (middle of the day my time) so that those of us on the other side of the world get the opportunity to see the questions first.

AND I don't think Dad should get to play - how do we know you're not giving him the answers?? :)
