A soon-to-be certified super geek

Last week I took the first step towards becoming super geek.  I attended an A+ Certification course.  8 hours a day for 5 days straight of hard core, super geek computer repair/configuration/setup training.

I plan to take the certification exam in a couple weeks and then if I pass I'll be a certified A+ PC technician.  Since when did I want to be a certified PC technician?  Well, I really don't, but I've got the computer science and IT management degrees so now I need to add the industry certifications to my qualifications.  It looks good on a resume...just in case I ever need it in the future.  The next steps are Network + and Security+....can't wait!

Anyway, for those five days I sat in a computer lab with headphones on listening to the instructor who was on the east coast.

It was exhausting!  I've never had so much information stuffed into my head in such a short timeframe.

The worst part that was because the instructor was on the east coast we had to go by his time.  Class started at 6:45 a.m. and the training location was on the very west side of Colorado Springs, almost an hour drive each way which meant I had to leave home by 6:00 a.m.  The good news was that I was done at 3:00.

We had lunch at 10:30 each morning.  Have you ever tried to find a place to have lunch at 10:30 in the morning?

We got two breaks per day plus lunch.  In order to get up and move my legs and keep the blood flowing, I took advantage of the breaks and walked as much as possible.  Two laps around the building was about 2,000 steps so I did that as often as possible.

This was my shadow one day as I was on one of those strolls.  (My brother takes great shadow shots so I thought I'd try to emulate him.)

I passed this dumpster multiple times per day and almost every time there was someone pulled up next to it dumping their trash...see all the mattresses?  What business doesn't keep their dumpster locked to avoid this situation?  Who just pulls up to a random dumpster and does this?  I suppose that's a post for another day.

Anyway...I'm planning to take the certification exam in two weeks.  Two exams that are both 90 minutes in length.  I need to memorize as much as possible before then.  Good thing I had a refresher in "anding" binary numbers.  1 + 0 = 0 and 1 + 1 = 1.

You may only hear about the results if I pass.  Keep your fingers crossed!

Good luck on your exam. You are really hard working.

That mattress dumping at the dumpster deal really intrigues me.
