What is a Psoas?

So this week I took a big step and went out of my comfort zone.  With my stack of test results and radiology reports, I went to see a new doctor.  Dr. K was recommended by a couple people in my office.  I tend to prefer lady doctors, but I thought I'd give Dr. K a chance.

It was a terrific experience that may have actually renewed my faith in the medical profession.  Dr. K took the time to read all the reports I brought with me and then spent nearly an hour  questioning everything I've experienced in the last 15 months (which I'm sure the people who were scheduled after me just loved).  Then he started poking and proding which led him to my latest diagnosis...Psoas Syndrome.

The psoas is a long muscle that runs down the side of the body.  I've been prescribed eight weeks of physical therapy for the psoas, which can't be done by just any physical therapist...he sent me to Dr. R who has a Ph.d. in physical therapy.

I don't know if this is the answer to the pain on have on my right side, but I'm sure willing to give it a try.  I had my first session this morning and an hour of deep muscle massage, which was torture, all I can say is "bring on the ibuprofen".  The best part about the therapy is the two labrador retrievers who are the therapy dogs--Kona and Frisco.  They kept coming over to check on me whenever Dr. R was applying intense pressure to my "trigger points".

On Monday I'm going back for some needle therapy.

I'll be jumping for joy if this really works!  Keep your fingers crossed.

Tomorrow I'm leaving for Denver at 4:30 a.m. to jump on a plane and head to Phoenix.  Dana's dress is finally in and the fitting is tomorrow.  I was so happy that she asked me if I'd come.  It will be nice to spend the weekend with my baby girl.  I'm giving up the CSU vs. AFA game for Dana--Mr. Beans gets to take my place at the game and CSU tailgate party.  Lucky boy!

GO RAMS!
