An afternoon in the big city

Last weekend I took a little break from homework and went to Denver with Jillian and a friend for lunch and a show.

We started at BD's, our favorite Mongolian BBQ.  This year it has been a tradition to go to BD's for a Blue Moon and lunch.  We've had fun trying the different combinations of sauces.

After lunch we had some time to spare so we walked around for a little while.

We found these bicycle racks where you can rent bikes.  I first saw this on my brother's blog a couple weeks ago in a city where he visited.  You can rent a bike for $8 per day and just drop it wherever you find a kiosk.  This one was right outside the theatre district light rail stop.  While we were there checking it out, a guy came to pick a bunch of them up to move to other stops.

I've seen the Denver Convention Center from a distance, but I've never taken the time to go inside and check it out.

It has this blue bear sculpture on the outside.  It's called "I see what you mean".  He stands 40 feet tall.

Here he is from the inside.

I think he's darn cute.

The show in the main theatre of the Denver Performing Arts Center was "The Book of Mormon".  No, we didn't have tickets, but I wish we did.  There was a lottery going on for tickets when we first got there.  All kinds of cheering was going on.  You would have thought those people had won a million dollar lottery instead of the opportunity to buy tickets to The Book of Mormon.  All kinds of people were dressed up as Mormon missionaries.  Is this a new fad or something?  I thought it was a little disrespectful.

We were there to see a musical, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change".  It was the story of relationships from the first date through a 60 year marriage.  It was very funning and I found myself laughing out loud quite often.  It was a fantastic show, but leave the kids at home--it's for adults.

There was a song in the show "Shouldn't I be less in love with you?".  It really made me think of my wonderful hubbie.  We've been married 35 years and he's still my best friend.

For the  past l3 months I've been having health issues that the doctors just can't figure out.  It's been frustrating and for the last three weeks it's been getting worse, lots of pain, lots of just feeling lousy, and lots of time just falling into bed as soon as I get home from work, but my sweet husband is always there for me.  (If you ask me how I feel though, I'm going to tell you I feel fine.  Only Irv and a couple close friends know how I really feel everyday.)  The lyrics to this song express everything I feel about him.

The experts say it does not last.
The experts say it's fleeting.
The experts bray love fades so fast
Then tell me why is my heart still beating?

Shouldn't I be less in love with you?
Shouldn't I address what time can do?
  • Shouldn't I be more inclined to flee?
Shouldn't I explore all I can be?

Shouldn't I confess a sorted fling?
Shouldn't I carress a cute young thing?
Shouldn't I assess what we've been through?
Shouldn't I be less in love with you?

After 30 years together
All those brutal fights
those futal fights
then the sleepless nights

Shouldn't I have quit 'cause marriage ends?
Shouldn't we have split like all our friends?
Shouldn't I profess it's time to go?
Shouldn't I be less in love with you?
No.

I'm not as poetic as Ellen but let me just say, "I'm the lucky one in our relationship"

Irv is a heck of a guy!!

I love the bear statue.

I'd love to see the Book of Mormon. I won't go as a missionary though.
