Oh no, not again
renal colic
n : sharp pain in the lower back that radiates into the groin;
associated with the passage of a renal calculus through
the ureter
In other words...kidney stone.
About a month ago I started having a dull ache in my right side. Kidney stone? Not possible, it wasn't that long ago that I had a rather large stone removed or blasted from each kidney (actually it was a year and a half)
I'm not going down that path again.
One trip to the urgent care--diagnosis: kidney infection. One round of antibiotics completed...still have that nagging pain.
One trip to my primary care physician--no diagnosis yet, but we're still running tests.
Friday night--doubled over in pain, glad I have some Vicadin left over, sick to my stomach.
OMG...I have a kidney stone, no doubt, but there's no way in heck I'm going to the ER. Last time I went there they made me stay for two days. I will however, take my temperature every couple of hours to make sure I'm not developing a fever. Afterall, I don't want a kidney stone to kill me, but I'm not going to the ER unless that becomes a possibility.
Saturday rolls around, I'm sicker than a dog, BUT I have reservations for high tea at Glen Eyrie with friends. There's no way I'm missing that. Drugs are out of the system, I get dressed, and off I go. Fun time and no one suspected that I was in agony.
Sunday--I get up and cook for several hours. Irv and I are one the second week of our diet which is going fabulous. Irv-down 10 lbs. Me, only 7 (but I'm not complaining).
Monday morning--Dr. M's office opens at 8:30. I get orders to get a KUB (abdomen x-ray) and then come see him.
I knew Dr. M would scold me for not coming to see him sooner and he did. I learned my lesson. The size of my latest stone is a mere 3mm, not bad considering the last two I had were 12 and 19mm.
It should be able to pass by itself. Dr. M gives me two weeks. Pass it myself or come back and he'll take it out surgically. (Not fun)
Lord, please let me pass it myself.
Dr. M is my new best friend. He gave me some new drugs that hopefully won't make me sick.
Lesson learned: call Dr. M when the pain first starts, not a month later.
