The Day has Finally Arrived!

Woohoo!  The day we have been patiently waiting on for nearly a year finally arrived!

Our turn for the Covid-19 vaccine was today, at least the first dose anyway.  We had a 10:30 appointment.  We were told to wait in our car until five minutes before the appointment and then come inside.  We knew that wasn't going to be the case when we drove up though.  No place to park and a line that wrapped around the building.

Not many people get this kind of view while waiting in a two plus hour line.  Anyway, what happened is that our County Health Department sent over hundreds of walk-ins.  So those of us who had appointments and the walk-ins were all in a long line together.

Our attitude was to be grateful that we were getting the chance to have the vaccine today.  Plenty of people were upset and giving the line monitors hell.  I say we're pretty lucky to be getting the vaccine with a mere two hour wait which is much better than the long lines we've seen in California and elsewhere.

I only wished I had brought a warmer jacket and my portable camp stool...after all, I just had knee surgery four weeks ago and two hours of standing pushed me to my upper limit.

Finally it was our turn.  The needle going into my arm hurt slightly, but the nurse was very good at talking while pushing the needle in so I hardly noticed.  They tried to forget giving us our Covid 19 Vaccine stickers, but we said we weren't leaving without them.

Immediately after getting the shot I got a very strong metallic taste in my mouth.  Irv said he didn't experience that so of course I had to google and some vaccine recipients do experience a metallic taste.  So far so good as there aren't any other side effects.

Afterwards it was time to go celebrate the day.  They're trying to rejuvenate an area in downtown Colorado Springs so we headed down there to explore and find some lunch.

We found a place called COATI Uprise that is a very hip indoor food court.  It was probably way too hip for Irv and I, but we decided to check it our anyway.  It has several different food options, we chose the Korean place.  It's not fast food, they actually cook your order and then text you when it's ready.

There are several bars inside and a stage where they offer live music--probably not during a pandemic though.

We had gone for the bulgogi lettuce wraps.  They were good, but we've had much better bulgogi at other restaurants in town.  While we were eating we were coveting a guys shrimp basket that he got from the Soulful Seafood booth.  That's what I'm getting next time.

It feels great to have the first dose onboard.  Our second dose is scheduled for three weeks.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there won't be such a long line next time.

Have you planned for your Covid vaccine yet?  Or are you one of those people who are "waiting"?

A very wise person recently suggested to me that the "waiters" and the conspiracy theorists all like to consider themselves more "special" that everyone else.  One way to do this is to say they're "waiting" for the vaccine.

Waiting for what?  To prove the scientists and medical experts wrong?  Waiting so that they can keep our country from reaching herd immunity?  Waiting so they can succumb to more conspiracy theories aimed at the weak minded?

I'm just glad that two weeks after I'm fully vaccinated I'll be able to go visit my brothers and SIL and enjoy their company unmasked even in indoor locations according to the new CDC guidelines for those who are fully vaccinated.  I'm glad we are all educated, critical thinkers who believe in science and know that the only way to get back to "normal" is to have the majority of the population vaccinated.

We're all in this together!  Plan for your vaccine, please!

Thank you to Governor Pollis for taking this virus seriously, keeping Coloradans safe, and keeping the vaccination process moving swiftly.

Good for you getting vaccinated.

I don't understand it but the Trump followers here seem to think the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is more politically palatable and so they are waiting for that. Of course many of them still think it is all a hoax and even if it isn't 500,000 dead isn't that many people.

Looking forward to seeing you and Irv!!
