Finally!

After 52 days of construction I have retaken control of my house!  With the exception of three small pieces of crown molding that has to be ordered, my new kitchen is finally done!

It is fabulous!

The end of the island has shelves for my cookbooks.  I tossed out a bunch of cookbooks when I packed the kitchen up.  I'm kind of stuck in my ways now.  You will notice, however, that the top shelf has all of The Pioneer Woman cookbooks.  She's my cooking hero.

Each of the two corners has an appliance garage.  We were only going to have one, but Irv wanted a second and that turned out to be a great decision.  Now everything can be hidden away (I hate clutter).

The stainless farmer's sink is amazing. It is so huge that we could bathe the dogs in there.

I love the back-splash!  I wanted the classic subway tile that never goes out of style and Irv wanted an accent so we combined both for a great look.

We decided to go with a gray island and both Irv and I love how it came.  The drawers make so much more sense than cabinets that you have to get down on your hands and knees to see the back of.  I highly recommend them.  The drawer pulls are one of my favorite things.

The pantry is huge.  We have so much unused space in there that hopefully won't get filled up with useless clutter.

The back of the island is covered with gray bead-board to match the white bead-board on the cabinets.

Here's the other corner with the other appliance garage and my wine rack.  In the cabinet above the wine rack I have all my glasses--wine, champagne, martini, margarita--and our booze.  Come over and we'll have a drink.

The refrigerator is in its own cabinet with a humongous cabinet above for all that crystal, serving platters, bowls, etc. that rarely get used.  You'll also see that Charlie has a home on the counter.

Here's a close up of the quartz.  I absolutely love it!  The kitchen looks like it could be in a design magazine.  Even Irv admitted the white was a good choice.  It really opens up and brightens the house.  It took me a couple years to come up with the design for this kitchen and I was pretty sure I had made the right choices, but now that it's finished I am totally in love with it.  (Yes, I know I'm saying love a lot.)

I spent the entire day cleaning yesterday and getting the house back to "normal".  This included hanging things back on the walls next to the kitchen.  I re-did the family room "family" wall.  I love being surrounded by the people I love.

A new addition to the wall is this "family birthdays" sign.  I bought this as a gift for someone who loves to track people's birthdays, but after I brought it home I reminded myself of how this person likes to return every gift I've given to them--even personalized gifts.  So instead of setting myself up to have hurt feelings again I decided to keep it for myself.  Irv's sister came through with a list of his family's birthdays so they're all on there.  Irv is still in charge of sending his family's birthday's cards so we'll see if he starts taking a look at it to see what birthdays are coming up.

My guest room is open for business again.  For 52 days our temporary kitchen was set up in there--toaster, crock pot, tea pot, food storage, etc.  So come on over and check out our new kitchen.
