Skywatch Friday: Where has the blue sky gone?

Image
It was hard getting a shot for this week's Skywatch Friday. Why, you ask? Because here in Southern CO we haven't seen a blue sky in a week.  We're kind of spoiled around here...we normally have something like 330 days of sunshine per year. This week everything has been just white.  Winter has hit hard.   It is incredibly beautiful and we're very thankful for the moisture.   My old dogs don't enjoy the snow as much as they used to. My ponies are nice and fuzzy and they're getting extra hay in their bellies to help keep warm.  Isn't he super cute? I've worked from home this week so I haven't had to commute into town everyday.  The snow is much more enjoyable when you can just sit inside and watch it.  However; I haven't been outside for more than 10 minutes a day in the last week.   I'm going a little stir crazy and I'm ready for my Colorado sun to come back out!  Although I'm not complaining...my...

Snowbound!

Image
Last week all we heard on the news was about the blizzard of the century that going to occur this weekend.  Up to 20 inches of snow was expected. Milk and bread!  Isn't that what you go get when you hear a big storm is coming? In my opinion, there are many more items that are required to survive a weekend stuck at home--mainly cereal, popcorn, protein bars, bananas, and water.  Just a few of my favorite things! On Saturday I tired to head out to my weekly painting lesson, but turned around and came back home once the roads became covered with snow.  I just didn't feel like making the 1 1/2 hour roundtrip drive to my lesson on snow covered roads.   So my coyote remains in its current state.  By the way, I don't think there is anything more difficult than painting fur! Luckily I had prepared a weekend project that could be done in the event that the storm really happened.  I have been wanting to make a special gift for my new gran...

Skywatch Friday: A Day in the Garden

Image
It's not often that we have a glorious spring-like day in February, but a couple weeks ago we had a beautiful, perfect day.  We took to the trails at the Garden of the Gods to soak up some sunshine and enjoy some fresh air in the midst of winter.   There's almost nothing that makes me happier than being outside in God's beauty.  I love this view with Pike's Peak.   It was kind of odd to see the wienermobile driving through the park.  We used to see this in Madison, WI when we lived there because there is an Oscar Mayer plant there.  I can't say that I've ever seen one in Colorado Springs before.   The park has immaculate trails!  Well groomed and maintained.     Amazing balancing rocks.   So beautiful that it looks like a painting.   I can't wait for another day like this, but first we have to finish with winter.  A big storm is expected this weekend--between 3 and 20 inches of snow ...

Every day is Valentines Day!

Image
How do you celebrate Valentines Day at your house? It's one of those holidays that I don't have anything against, but I prefer not to get caught you in all the hype. If you love someone, shouldn't every day be Valentines Day?  Does it take chocolate, flowers, and jewelry to know that you're loved? When you're married to this man you know you're loved every day. Hopefully he knows how much he's loved too.   In honor of Valentines Day I didn't go out and buy chocolate or flowers, I only bought chicken.  You see, my sweetie loves to eat so we had a special Valentines candlelit dinner that included homemade fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, and biscuits. I'm pretty sure that this tells my man that he means the world to me.  A strong 38 year marriage requires that every day be Valentines Day (however, fried chicken only once a year so that we don't get fat!) Love you darlin!

Having fun at work

I have become a Wordpress super geek the past couple weeks and I love it! You see, at work we wanted to move away from a SharePoint intranet site to a cloud-based intranet that would allow our more and more mobile workforce to have access to whatever they need from any mobile device that has an internet connection. We hired a professional developer to do the initial design then he handed it over to me a couple weeks ago to customize it for our employees.  I now realize I could have designed the whole site myself and we could have saved big bucks! My brain has learned so much that it's about to burst.  But you know what, I love it!  Widgets, plugins, posts, pages, pnp, blah, blah, blah.  There's a reason why my first degree was in Computer Science.  I am a born developer!
