Ouch!

I went for my second round of physical therapy today.  On Friday, the doctor mentioned that dry needling might be a good option for me.  He asked me if I had a fear of needles so I lied and said "no".  Although I don't think I have a fear of needles, just the pain they cause.  I have vivid memories from my childhood when the doctor cured everything by giving a shot of penicillin.  I can remember being five or six years old with my mom at the doctor's office and I was screaming and crying and hiding behind a chair because I was about to get a shot of penicillin.  Thank goodness they don't do that to kids anymore.  I learned to get over my fear of needles when I was pregnant with Dana.  It wasn't until then that I learned I was RH negative and because of that, they had to take blood everytime I went to see the doctor.

I thought the procedure would be like acupuncture which I've heard isn't too bad.  With dry needling the needle is inserted deep into the damaged muscle and if it causes the muscle to twitch, it's doing its job.  My muscles reacted with some huge twitches.  Dry needling causes the body to react with endorphins and blood cells that go to the site to promote healing. The pain caused by the twitch signals the body to stop the twitch and relax the muscle. My body's reactions to the needles suggest that the pain I've been experiencing may indeed be caused by a knot in the muscle.

Was it painful, yes, but only for a few seconds.  The doctor said women handle this treatment way better than men.  Wimps!  Right now my body feels like your arm feels if you don't relax when you get a flu shot.  I'm sure I was tense all over.

I really want to ask if I can take a picture for the blog, but I'm not sure if that's appropriate.  I at least want to get a picture of the dogs.  Why is it that bloggers feel the need to photograph everything that happens in their lives?

I'm actually feeling a little hopeful tonight.

It didn't sound like you had good time at all. And yes it would be alright to ask to take pictures. Those of us that read your blog love to see pictures, so ask. :)

Wow, I've never heard of dry needling. I'm glad that you feel hopeful and I am also. You have been on a journey.

As far as the pics, since you are the photographer I think they should dry needle Irv once and you take a photo, might take a dozen or so takes though to get the right shot. What do you think?
