A Perfect Sunday Afternoon
The very mild winter weather continues here on the high plains of Colorado. We did experience a blast of artic air a couple weeks ago, but it passed on through and headed east.
On Sunday it was 60+ degrees so we loaded up the dogs and headed to our favorite nearby walking/hiking area. The ponds are frozen over. You probably can't see it in the above photo, but there's a basketball in the middle of the pond. Thank goodness no one decided to follow it out there to retrieve it.
We stayed on the trails/maintenance roads that were mostly in the sunshine to avoid mud from the couple inches of snow that accompanied our recent artic blast.
Fountain Creek still has a little water in it and is quite calm compared to what it will be when the snow melt starts. Speaking of snow melt, the Colorado snow basin is at 57% of median. Colorado and everyone downstream who uses are water will likely be in for some restrictions this summer. It's setting up to be a bad wildfire season also.
Lots of exposes boulders in the creek.
The irrigation canal is shut off this time of year.
Herer's little Maisy trying to keep up with us. She mostly walks herself. The leash is attached though in case we need to grab her for any reason. She's doing quite well for a little dog who is about to celebrate her 12th birthday.
Have you been out on the trail lately?
