Dems and Queens
It's been an interesting weekend. I've decided to get more involved with our local democratic party this year so I dragged Mary along to their kick off reception for 2023.
We did a little shopping before the reception and then I dragged Mary to a café that I've always wanted to eat at. Little did I know that it was a mostly vegan restaurant. I was really proud of her because she agreed to stay even after viewing the menu because she's a meat and potatoes type of person. She was able to find some asiago macaroni and cheese and I selected the vegan street tacos. Mine was absolutely delicious and I'd go back to have them again. I don't Irv would be too thrilled to dine there either.
Then we made our way over to the arts center for the reception where they put on a really nice wine and charcuterie board spread. There were lots of candidates and current representatives there in addition to the officers from the Colorado Democratic Party. We tried our best to mingle, but it's hard when everyone there seems to already know each other. My next step is to sign up to volunteer in the office.
The next morning Irv and I got up early and headed to the county fairgrounds. One of my former 4-Hers asked if I'd be willing to conduct mock interviews at the County Fair Queen Clinic. Of course I said yes and when the email arrived she had added Irv as an interviewer also. I think everyone assumes we come as a set.
There were 21 young women there ranging in age from 8 to 21 years of age. We spent about 10 minutes with each of them. Let me just tell you, it was a lot of talking. Afterwards Irv and I were both talked out for the day. I will say that those young ladies were very poised and if they are the future, we are in good hands. I told my friend that I was glad we weren't there to make any final decisions because many of them could easily be the next queen. It's good to connect with the youngsters every now and then.
The coordinator for the Girl of the West was also there as a interviewer as were fair board members, veterinarians and other community members who volunteer their time to the youth. This is the truck the Girl of the West gets to drive around during her reign.
Since then it's just been football and books. Relaxing weekends are the best!
