Skywatch Friday: Praying Hands
I'm in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a few days and decided to go visit the world's largest praying hands sculpture. It's named "Praying Hands", it was originally named "Healing Hands".
The hands are located at the entrance to Oral Roberts University.
According to Travel Oklahoma they are also the world's largest bronze statue at 60 feet tall and weighing 30 tons. I think they're quite beautiful.
My hubbie and I visited the hands many years ago with my brother and there used to be a geocache located under this electric box. No, I did not look to see if it's still there.
Nearby are the CityPlex Towers which were previously the City of Faith Medical and Research Center envisioned by Oral Roberts in 1977. The hands used to be located at the entrance to the hospital. The hospital opened in 1981 and after years of losing money and rising debt, it closed in 1989. The hands were moved from the entrance of the hospital to its current location in 1991. The towers are now used primarily for office space.
A short walk away from the hands is the Prayer Tower. The architecture on the campus is very futuristic. It reminds me of the Jetson's cartoons. I think it's a very beautiful campus.
