My week in review
The big chill has passed us by and is headed East.
We had a couple mornings where it was 10 below when we woke up. Maisy's feet froze when she went outside to do her business and she would just stop wherever she was and hold up a foot or two. My husband is so kind because he's been doing all the early morning feedings when the windchill is near or below zero.
I can't really complain about the cold here though. My friends who work at Yellowstone year round always like to have a little fun. This is the ghost ranger at the West Entrance.
The West Entrance is an official weather station for NOAA and this was the reading on Monday morning--actual temperature, not wind chill. I can't even imagine.
We ventured out in the artic chill on Monday night for dinner and a show.
We saw Tootsie at the Pikes Peak Center which was hilarious. I haven't laughed that much in quite a while. The show is nothing like the movie. I especially enjoyed the one liners that took aim at the patriarchy. I also picked up some pointers on how to respond to the old men who refer to female rangers as honey, dear, sweetheart....or tootsie.
Then it was up to Denver on Wednesday to go to a play at the Denver Performing Arts Center with my sweetie and an old friend that I worked with at Young Life. We've been great friends since 2000 and I'm thankful that Scott is always reaching out to make sure we stay connected. First stop was to his house so I could say hello to Atticus, the dog Scott rescued from a garbage dump in South Texas. He's the sweetest dog and was so happy to see us.
Scott and I have had conversations about To Kill a Mockingbird for the last couple years and he prompted me to reread the book as an adult. We knew that we had to attend the play when it was announced it was coming to Denver.
The show is completely sold out during its two week stay in Denver probably because Atticus Finch is played by Richard Thomas aka John Boy Walton or more recently the Ozark series on Netflix. The play was fabulous! Everyone in the audience was on their feet with a standing ovation before the actors came out for their bow.
I will admit that the play was a little rough at times. Hearing the "N" word used repeatedly and realizing that maybe our country hasn't come that far since 1934 when the story took place. The Tyre Nichols killing is still so fresh. I am so deeply ashamed of the history of our country and now by the banning of critical race theory or black history instruction in public schools. I guess states like Florida would just like to forget it ever happened. It's disgraceful! I refuse to be friends (FB or otherwise) with anyone who shows racist tendencies, no matter who they are.
Tonight we're off to celebrate Mary's new job! We have 50+ degree days this weekend so hopefully we'll get out on a hike.
Hope you had a good week.
