A New Little Nugget in the Family

Big news this week!  I had previously mentioned that we were kind of looking for a new dog, but the right dog was going to have to find us.

Well, last Saturday we decided to meander over to the Humane Society to look at a female black lab puppy that was on their website.  By the time we got there she had already been adopted, but there was another kennel full of little nuggets.  We decided to learn more about them so we went to sign up with a matchmaker.  After doing that we went to look at them some more and the kennel was empty!

Where had all the puppies gone?  Were they flying off the shelves that quickly?

As it turned out between our initial look and our return one of the pups had tested positive for parvo so all of them had to go into isolation.

We could only look at pictures of them and we chose this little nugget because of that blue eye.  Her name at Humane Society is Sometimes Sleepy, but that will be changing once we finally get to bring her home.  We placed a choice hold on her and we'll get to bring her home once they determine she's healthy.

Since our initial visit they realized the sick puppy had distemper rather than parvo.  It appears the incubation period for distemper is 3 to 21 days (as opposed to 3-7 days for parvo) so it might be awhile before she's released to us.  As of earlier this week she was still testing negative so keep your fingers crossed.

Irv said this is going to be his dog.  He's going to do all the training and therefore he gets to name her.  He's keeping his choices to himself so we'll see what her name ends up being.  I'm kind of excited to have a puppy, but the thought also terrifies me since we're old now and aren't used to keeping shoes and other items out of the reach of a chewing puppy.

Maisy is so excited to have a puppy of her own although that puppy will be bigger than she is by the time she gets home.

Yep, Looking forward to getting her. The final name is still up in the air.
