A Quick Trip to the Sooner State

Last week we packed up and headed to Oklahoma to visit my brothers and sister-in-law.

Both cats really begged to come along, but you know Irv, he always says no.

Tulsa has recently opened up some of visiting rules for residents of care facilities.  I had been waiting for this day to come for a very long time.  It had been over a year since I had seen my brothers.  I made him some new masks that will hopefully stay over his mouth and nose better (if he doesn't put them on upside down anyway).

My masks have progressed tremendously over the last year.  This most recent version covers from the under the eyes to the chin, has a nose wire, and most importantly it has three layers.  Two layers of cloth with a thick interfacing layer on the inside.  The interfacing layer acts as a filter.  After all, what good is a mask that doesn't keep particles from reaching your nose and mouth?  If you've received one of these masks from me and are wondering why it's so thick, the answer is to keep you safe.

This is what a visit looks like when everyone is vaccinated.  As of today I'm proud to report that Irv and I, our daughters, and our sons-in-law are all vaccinated.  I'm proud to have a family that believes in science and the experts and doesn't feel they have to "wait" to prove they know more than the scientists.

I'm so deeply grateful for the progress my brother has had since November 2019.  He was sick and I mean really, really sick.  Thanks to the many prayers raised on his behalf he continues to show improvement, is walking with a walker and takes the majority of the care of himself.  He was waiting at the door for us when we arrived.  Miracle!  He seems very content and happy at the facility he's in.  During one of our visits there was an ice cream social and his caretakers noticed he was absent so they brought ice cream to his room.  I'm so grateful for his caregivers.

Our trip was cut short by a winter storm that was rolling through.  We decided to go home early rather than driving on snow and ice.  It was a great visit!

Get vaccinated people!

It was a great visit. The first time we have had people in our house socially in over a year. Really appreciated the truck and the help getting the storage unit cleaned out. I think brother Bob really enjoyed seeing you as well.
