Going on a troll hunt

One of my favorite stops along our journey was a stop at the Coastal Maine Botanic Gardens.  We're a fan of the Thomas Dambo trolls and when we learned five of them were in one location we had to go!

Our journey took us on many different country roads turning every few miles onto a new one because there was no main thoroughfare to our destination.  It was a lengthy journey, but well worth it.

We finally arrived!

You could definitely tell it was nearing the end of the season for the garden, but there were still some amazing blooms we enjoyed along the troll hunt.

The first troll we came across was Roskva.  She stands for the trunks.

The trolls have three things to teach us:  1) Save seeds and plant more trees, 2) Reduce and reuse, and 3) Discover and share stories of the woods.  It's no wonder I love these trolls so much--they stand for everything I believe in.

Really cool sculptures!

This is Lilja.  She is still a child and holds the scents of the flowers.

My favorite troll was Soren who sticks up for the branches.

Then there was Gro who smiles with the leaves.

Here's a link to Thomas Dambo's troll map if you ever want to go on your own troll hunt.  They're located all over the world.

The last troll was Birk who holds the roots.

Found out more about the Coastal Maine trolls here.

The path also took us through a fairy garden that according to legend has been there for 8,000 years.

I love it when places think outside the box and create exhibits that are interesting to both adults and children.

Very clever!

More beautiful flowers to enjoy!

There's nothing like stopping to smell the roses.

Irv stopped me at the last second from stepping on this guy.  A little while later I did step on a frog.  He hopped away so I hope he was okay.  Too many beautiful things to look at so I wasn't watching my step.

Definitely worth a visit if you're ever in Maine!

Yes, This was one of my favorite parts of the trip. I was very impressed with all the flowers. Was disappointed that they didn't sell bulbs of the different plants, i would of bought quite a few.
