Happy Days!
Lots of things going on around here this week.
The veggies are ripening! Lots and lots of green beans, cucumbers, and zucchinis. The tomatoes and carrots are taking their sweet time though. Have you heard there's a tomato shortage now? I believe it because the grocery store only had one variety available yesterday and they were twice as expensive as they should be.
There's nothing like fresh veggies for dinner--green beans, German cucumber salad, and Pioneer Woman's fried zucchini. Yes, I know fried things aren't good for you, but Pioneer Woman never disappoints and the fried zucchini was amazing!
These young-uns like to watch us as we walk Maisy down the road. I think they expect treats.
It was time for me to go donate some blood. I learned a valuable lesson about taking it easy for 15 minutes afterwards. I started seeing stars and had to quickly sit down while shopping. Luckily Irv was with me.
The area we live in has been inundated with these beautiful caterpillars. They are everywhere! You have to watch every step you take and steer the car around them on the road.
They're starting to burrow into the ground. One day they'll be beautiful hummingbird moths.
The most exciting news of the week is the work we had done to the back of our house.
Here's the before photo--just a single exterior door with a huge dog door (for when we had big dogs).
Time to take out that old door...
And cut a huge hole into the exterior wall.
They removed that stud then had to put in a big header to accommodate the new door.
Then it was time to slide the new door in and frame it up. These guys did amazing work and completed it in about five hours. It's so nice when you meet a contractor who goes above and beyond to do exceptional work.
This might be the best home improvement project we've done other than the kitchen. It's so nice to have all that light come in. It makes the rooms feel larger and most importantly, it makes me happy to be able to see all the green and flowers outside. Now, when it's 10 degrees outside, the wind is blowing, and there's a foot of snow on the ground I might not be so happy. I may have to put up window coverings then, but for now I'm going to cherish every drop of sunshine.
How was your week?
