Vincent

Anyone who knows me very well knows that my favorite artist is Vincent van Gogh.  He is an impressionist artist whose works can be recognized from across the room thanks to his distinct brush stokes.

Was I ever excited when my daughter got me tickets to the Immersive van Gogh Experience in Denver.  Although my birthday was in March our tickets weren't until October.  And then we were affected by Covid so the tickets got moved to early December.

I loved this quote of van Gogh's that was on the wall when we entered the venue.  "What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?"  Vincent certainly had courage to try painting techniques that were outside the box for his time.

When you enter the exhibit it is two large rooms that are showing the exact same scenes.  There are a few benches, but most everyone sits on the floor in socially distant circles.

A video that is about 45 minutes long displays Vincent's work all around you..

I was in heaven!

It is overwhelming to the senses.  So much to take it.

Vincent lead quite a disturbed life.  I love the many self portraits he did of himself.

During his lifetime he only sold one of his paintings.  It wasn't until after his death that it was realized what a genius he was.

Mr. Beans was nice enough to come along, but I think he really hated it.  If you're not an art lover than I can see why it would be so boring.

I've been fortunate to see two of van Gogh's sunflower paintings in person and it was quite a treat.  His use of yellow in those paintings was genius

His simplistic yet complicated style is admirable.  We sat through the video twice and there were so many things I hadn't noticed the first time.  If I had been there by myself I probably would have stayed for hours.  It was a great experience and I highly recommend it if the exhibit ever comes to your town!  Thank you, Marian, for a great day!

Afterwards we went for Mexican food on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver.  Then there was a little fun on the mall as we all tried the whirly chairs.  Mary was great at it, I was not so great, but at least I didn't fall over.  Great laughs at Irv's expense!

I'd be all over that Van Gogh experience.

Irv is a good sport. He can dish it out but he can take it also.
