Random Photos

Today I got out my DSLR camera to take a few shots of the raptor roost in our pasture (more on that in a few days).  When I downloaded the pictures from the card there were some random photos.  So this post is about nothing at all. This is our two year old Malamute+German Shephard mix, Aspen. She is the sweetest must lovable dog you'll ever meet. She is also the most timid, scared dog you'll ever meet.  She's afraid of almost everything including eating or drinking out of her bowl.  We have to coax her to eat and drink.  She also hates any floor that isn't carpeted.  We used to have runners all over the house, but after we got the new floors she was a little better.  I think it's because the LVP have a little ridge to them. I think this was Irv trying to be artistic.  Good job, dear. Here's Jasper checking out the scratching post Irv put up for him. In the summer time he's very itchy.  When I feed him in the morning I douse him with some anti...

Tulsa Zoo

Image
It was a perfect day to visit the Tulsa Zoo.  A nice reprieve from winter even though it's still technically winter.   Enjoy these pictures of a few of the residents. I especially enjoyed their collection of unusual birds. A flamboyance of flamingoes! Adorable five day old calf!  It's a girl! A very tired snow leopard. Sleepy tiger. Where do I get my own red panda? This big guy was enjoying the sunny day! Mamma tiger. Not one, not two, not three... ...but four tiger cubs! Very tired grizzly! A rain forest guest. My favorite of the day--a Fennec fox! I had never seen one in person before so it was quite a treat.  It was hard to get a good shot because he was never still.  Adorabel! So majestic!  I wonder if he is worried about what's happening in America too. The Tulsa Zoo is a great place to visit.  Stop by if you're in the area.

Skywatch Friday: Praying Hands

Image
I have been in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a few days and I decided to go see the "Praying Hands", a bronze sculpture located at the entrance to Oral Roberts University.  (I did not realize that ORU was still an active university.) I've read that the hands are the largest praying hands sculpture in the world standing 60 feet high and weighing 30 tons. The hands were originally located outside the City of Faith Medical and Research Center and were moved to their current location in 1991 after the hospital closed. Years ago my hubbie and I visited the hands with my brother.  I do recall there was a geocache under this electrical box behind the sculpture.  No, I did not look to see if it was still there. These three towers  near the hands are Robert's former hospital.  The complex is now called the CityPlex Towers and is occupied by several businesses and a few medical facilities.  Oral Roberts had a vision to build the complex in 1977 and it opened in 1980.  Unf...

Skywatch Friday: A storm is coming

Storm clouds brewing over the high plains of Southern Colorado last week. We've had a lot of cold and snow this month.  I'm ready for spring! Linking with Skywatch Friday

Celebration and Grief

Image
My favorite grandson, formerly known as Mr. Beans, is home from his training at Fort Sill, OK.  (He's now formally known as SPC Beans.) His training concluded on Wednesday morning and he immediately jumped in the car headed towards home.  Of course we had to go celebrate his accomplishments! We chose to go to a local distillery.  I'm not much of a whiskey type gal, but I do think these bottles are beautifully lined up. Then we went up to the third floor and they have a platform overlooking the barrel aging room (that's what I call it anyway).  Hundreds of barrels of whiskey.  Apparently this distillery sells a lot of whiskey to Canada, but that's going to change obviously.  President Musk and FLOTUS Trump have no idea how bad they're hurting this country, the worst of it may not be visible for months. The distillery is in a commercial area.  Their third floor balcony has an amazing view of Pikes Peak.  (I should have ventured outside to get a bett...
