A Spring Break Outing

Image
Last week was spring break for the schools here in the Pikes Peak region.  We decided to ask our grandson, Mr. Beans, on an outing to TopGolf in Denver.  To our surprise, he said yes. He's a very nice young man with good manners so we kind of thought he just said yes to humor us. Here's Irv getting the computer set up. Here's me fixing what Irv just did.  :) Here I am setting up for my first swing. Mr. Beans is winding up to hit. Here I am again, hopefully able to hit the ball this time. Uh oh...Mr. Beans is beating both of us.  For me, that's not a surprise, but for Mr. Golf (Irv) I think he was in shock. Now he's going to take it seriously. Well, you can tell my the faces above who was the champion of Game One. Irv got his groove back in Game Two. If you've never been to TopGolf it's a lot of fine.  It's a three story driving range.  You aim for the targets and of course the f...

Skywatch Friday: Red tailed hawk

Image
Driving home last week I tried to sneak up on this beauty.  He was perched on a fence post and as soon as I got close he took flight. Luckily I did get a couple shots of him, but didn't have enough time to zoom in. I think he's absolutely gorgeous and so majestic! Thanks for making my day Mr. Hawk. Happy Skywatch Friday! Did you enjoy this post?  How about leaving me a comment, please?

An Afternoon Date

You know what is really nice about being retired and having a husband who works seven days on followed by seven days off? Sometimes we can have "date night" in the middle of the day. There's a local brewery that is housed in an old school building.  We headed over there for lunch and a beer on Friday.  I didn't take any pictures of the inside, but it reminds me of the school I attended in Price, Utah for kindergarten and 1st grade. I can't really tell you why, probably the original creaky floors, big windows, and the brick facade.  I couldn't find any pictures of the Harding School, only a pic of the historical marker. I did know the school closed not long after I attended there, but I had forgotten it was just a couple years later.  I think all schools from that era were built with a similar design and they were built to last for years and years.  I'm so glad the brewery found a home at Ivy Wild to preserve some history. It was at the H...

Happy Birthday to Me!

Image
Well, my birthday week is over.  I'm now 59 years old. What? How? I'm not in denial, I'm glad to be 59.  It sure beats the alternative. My birthday week started with lunch at Old Chicago last weekend. You know how restaurants have all those reward clubs?  Old Chicago gives you $17 towards a pizza so I wasn't about to pass that by.  We had a chicken, bacon pizza.  Anything with bacon is bound to be fantastic, right? My birthday "party" got pushed to Friday because of the blizzard of 2019.  No better way to start than with a margarita. I don't eat big chunks of red meat very often, but at my birthday dinner I went for the New York Strip.  It was delicious! Then it was over to Mary's for presents and cake.  My kids, grandkids, and hubby are all so generous with too many gifts.  Don't they realize I'm selling everything in the house to downsize?  Actually, they got me presents I need for painting, my she...

The Bomb Cyclone, Snowicane, Snowpacalypse, Snowmageddon of 2019

Image
For the past week we've been hearing about the big blizzard of 2019.  It was supposed to happen on Wednesday, March 13th.  That morning Irv got a call that the base was closed so he got a "snow day".  Woohoo! The only problem was that there was no snow.  The wind was blowing and it was raining.  No big deal, right?  I took the above video at about 10:30 a.m.  I almost suggested to Irv that we go into town to see a movie.  Thank goodness I had second thoughts about that notion. Within a few minutes things changed.  The snow intensified, the winds picked up.  The blizzard of 2019 had arrived. We were very fortunate that day because our electricity stayed on for the most part.  We had a few outages, but they lasted only a short time.  However, the internet was out for most of the day.  And to make it worse, Facebook had a major outage.  Talk about a double disaster! Mid-afternoon we thought it might be a goo...
